Imaginary god • Part 6
How many times have we asked ourselves; “Why can’t life be easier?” We feel like we are pushed to the limits and then what? Worry? Panic? Fear? Get angry and yell at whoever is nearest? Then we tend to turn to something–anything–to numb the pain. But there is an answer. Paul gives us a principle that we can live by when we are pushed to our limits.
Share a time in your youth when you felt like you were being pushed into areas you weren’t willing to go. Were you able to resist and what was the outcome?
When have you felt you possessed the strength to overcome a situation only to regretfully discover you had limited ability and power to resolve the problem on your own?
Embracing your limits allows you to fully rely on God’s limitless peace and understanding. When have you personally experienced God's limitless bounty and love in your life?
Read Philippians 4:4-6. What is a practical way you can shift your focus away from the things that make you anxious and cause you to rejoice no matter what?
Describe a time in your life when you were able to live out Philippians 4:4. What were the short-term and long-term effects?
Read Philippians 4:7. Where does powerful peace come from that can stand watch over your heart and mind? Describe how you can apply that kind of peace practically in your life.
What limit are you aware of in your life that causes you the most fear and anxiety? Fill in the blank: “Lord, I confess I am at my limit in ____________, but because You are limitless in your ____________, I’m relying on you.”
What happened that you had a chance to pray that prayer this week? What do you anticipate MIGHT happen that you will need to pray that prayer this week?
- Describe when you were recently pushed to the limit. In what ways did you resist God? How did you rely on God?
- The real God you believe in is not the one who is in your mind but the One you rely on with your life. You truly experience His strength ONLY when you confess your inability (your limitations). How can you get ready now to experience God’s power and peace in your life this week?
